The Challenge: Persistent Water in Basement After Rainstorms

Basement in Berryville, VA, showing water stains and no drainage system, leading to persistent moisture and unusable space.

Mike had recurring water in his basement after heavy rains, stains appeared on the concrete walls and floor, and a musty odor would linger. His basement had no existing drainage system in place to manage the water, making the space constantly damp and unusable.

Like many homeowners, Mike was concerned about the long-term effects of having water in basement. Ignoring the water problem warning signs could lead to more serious and expensive issues, such as:

Mold Growth & Health Risks – Moist conditions create the perfect environment for mold, affecting indoor air quality and health.
Foundation Stress & Water Damage – Standing water increases pressure on foundation walls, leading to cracks and structural weakening.
Reduced Home Value – A wet, musty basement can make a home harder to sell and lower its market value.

Mike knew he needed more than a temporary fix. He wanted a permanent, reliable solution to eliminate water in the basement, so he turned to LUX Foundation Solutions for help.

The Solution: Installing an Interior Drainage System to Stop Water Intrusion

After a detailed inspection, our team designed and installed a custom interior basement drainage system for long-term protection. Here’s how we completed the project step by step:

    Step 1: Trench Excavation

    • We excavated a 44-foot trench approximately 6 to 8 inches wide and 6 to 10 inches deep along the interior perimeter of the basement. This trench created the necessary path for the drainage system to collect and redirect incoming water effectively.

    Step 2: Drain Pipe Placement

    • Perforated drainage piping was laid inside the trench to collect groundwater and surface moisture from around the basement.

    Step 3: Gravel Backfill

    • Clean gravel was added around the drain pipe to promote smooth water flow and help filter out sediment or debris.

Step 4:  Sump Pump & Pit Installation

    • A high-capacity sump pump and pit were installed at the lowest point to actively collect and remove water in the basement, keeping the space dry at all times.

    Step 5:  Discharge Line Extension

    • We extended the discharge line away from the home’s foundation to prevent water from cycling back and causing future issues.

    Step 6:  Trench Re-sealing

    • Finally, the trench was sealed with concrete to restore the basement floor’s surface and provide a clean finish.

The Outcome: No More Water in Basement—Just a Dry, Usable Space
